The Service Support Team of the E-Learning Centre Familiarise Themselves With the Newly Developed Data Visualization Platform
On 28th April 2022, the service support team of the KNUST E-Learning Centre met with Mr. Emmanuel Ofum Mensah, a representative of the University Information Technology Services (UITS). This meeting was to equip the team with the requisite skills needed to operate the newly developed data visualisation platform of the Centre and to come up with strategies that can be adopted to improve upon the figures the platform generates. The platform is developed to monitor and help visualise the various performance of colleges, faculties, departments as well as lecturers on their use of the KNUST LSM (VClass) by generating data in three areas: lecturer-course assignment, which looks at lecturers and the courses they are assigned to; lecturer v-class usage, which captures lecturers’ use of the virtual classroom; and students’ registration, which monitors the number of students that have registered for the semester or the academic year. The representative from UITS took the team through the means of analysing the data generated in order to appropriately act on it.
The Director of the Centre, Prof. Eric Appau Asante, who was also present, encouraged members of the service support team to be up and doing and to brainstorm ideas that can be used by the Centre to improve its operation at the colleges. The Director also disclosed that for the time being, the data on the visualisation platform would be kept in-house until all other strategies being put in place by the Centre are fully carried out.
Once those strategies are duly implemented, he said, the data would be made public in order that all departments, as well as lecturers, may be well aware of their stands as far as their performance in the use of the LMS is concerned. This, then, would help put every stakeholder on his or her toes.
